Obituary for Gladys Lorrette Karish

Gladys Lorrette Karish
Wife, mother and Baba, Gladys passed away at Gimli Hospital surrounded by her family. She leaves to mourn her husband of 52 years Alex, sons Kelly (Julie) and Rocky (Nancy) and precious grandchildren Braden, Sarah and Madison, her sister Nettie, brother John (Jackie), treasured nieces and nephews and their children. Gladys was predeceased by her mother and father Carrie and Tony Wishnowski, nephew Teddy Skrypec, brothers-in-law Carl Skrypec and Eddie Karish. Gladys’ life was one of caring for others. First by creating a wonderful home and life for her husband and children and then by caring for the elderly during her lengthy career as an LPN at Goodwin Lodge in Teulon followed by years in Home Care. Gladys was a long serving member of the Women’s Institute of Inwood participating in countless events to raise funds for the community. Now if she were reading this it’s about here that Gladys would say “Enough already! Let’s lighten this up.” So what can we tell you about our Baba and Mom? Every pot luck meal we had the hope that Gladys would bring her renowned and delicious garlic bread. Every garden she tended had a wild joy to it and other delights fitting of a flower bed sign which read “I don’t remember planting that here!” Every bird found its favourite food and plenty of places to make a home. Every adult found a friend. Every child found plenty of treats, crafts and toys to make them want to come back again and again. Did we mention plenty of treats?! So though our hearts are broken to have said goodbye to this wonderful woman for whom family was everything, we will hold our memories dear and be grateful for every moment we shared. The family would like to thank Gloria and all of the Home Care staff who helped Gladys remain at home as long as possible. Also, we thank the wonderful staff at Gimli Hospital that took care of her until the end of her illness. As per Gladys’ wishes a private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Goodwin Lodge, Box 89, Teulon, MB ROC 3BO.
