Obituary for Magnus Kristjanson

Magnus Kristjanson
Magnus passed away peacefully at the Arborg Personal Care Home on November 27, 2016.

He is survived by his brother Rowland (Kristin) and sister-in-law Josephine, as well as his nieces and nephews: Douglas (Lee) Rogers, Ingrid (Neil) Stevenson, Ardith (Barrie) Sigurdson, Darren Kristjanson, Darlene (Norman) Barylski, Wesley (Sheila) Kristjanson and Ross Kristjanson, and extended family.

He was predeceased by his parents Thorsteinn and Sigridur Kristjansson; brothers Kristjan and Ingvar; sisters Lara and Johanna Gudbjorg (Erick Rogers); half-sisters Inga, Beatrice, Ingveldur, Gudfinna and Irene.

Magnus was born on the farm in Vidir. He spent his life with his brothers, farming and working in the Kristjanson Brothers gravel and concrete business. He was the eldest and took on farm responsibilities early, due to the poor health of his father. He was quiet and hardworking; always most comfortable out in the shop repairing. He was a good mechanic and master welder; he could fix anything. Neighbors appreciated his honesty, willingness to help and dry sense of humour. He kept up with current events and always enjoyed a good political argument or the opportunity to tease.

It was a hard transition to leave the farm and move to Arborg, when he and Kristjan were no longer able to live independently. They received excellent care at Assisted Living and the Arborg Personal Home, but never stopped missing the farm.

The last years were hard for Magnus, as he continually worried about Kristjan's well-being and his passing this summer was a big loss. Magnus was decisive and determined to the end.
The family is grateful for the wonderful caring staff at both Assisted Living and the Arborg Personal Care Home. A private family funeral is planned, with internment at the Vidir Cemetery.
