Obituary for Steve Mike Shmelinski

Steve Mike Shmelinski
Peacefully on December 17, 2016, our Dad, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather, Steve went home to be with his Lord, at the age of 99.

Steve will be lovingly remembered by his children: Danny (Gayle), Ruth (Ed Zurba), Arne, Janice (Donnie Hryshchuk), John (Melissa), and Malcom (Cindy). Grandchildren: Sara Shmelinski, Mark (Katie) Shmelinski, Tim (Kayley) Hryshchuk, Sabastian Shmelinski, and Alexzander Shmelinski. Great-grandson Micah Shmelinski.

Steve was predeceased by his first wife Lillian in May 1989, and his second wife Lily Kaplan in November 2014. He was also predeceased by all his siblings: Katherine Pidlubny, Victoria Nero, Margaret Kitzul, and Matt Shmelinski.

Born in Buchanan, SK on May 21, 1917, Steve later moved to Winnipeg where he met and married Lillian Domino in August 1943.

They bought a farm in Komarno in 1949 and Steve built the house which became home to many. Being a carpenter by trade, he worked at various jobs including the Kitimat Aluminum Smelter and the Gillam Hydro Generating Station.

Steve remained living independently on the farm until February 2013, and then moved into Betel Personal Care Home.

Steve will be remembered for his faith and deep devotion to God which greatly influenced his family over the years. Although we will miss him greatly, we have the assurance that we will be reunited in eternity.

We would like to thank Dr. R.C. Patel and staff at Gimli Betel Home for their excellent care of Dad.

A celebration of Steve’s life will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at 11:00 AM in the Komarno Hall. Pastor Dan Shmelinski will be officiating.

John 3:16: For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
